The Quiet We Share
Oil on canvas · 100 × 100 cm · 2026
I have never been particularly interested in the moments when people are talking.
What interests me are the moments when they no longer need to.
We live in a world that constantly demands our attention. We are expected to respond, explain ourselves, stay connected, stay visible. Yet some of the most meaningful human experiences happen in a very different kind of space.
A quieter one.
A space where nothing needs to be performed.
Where two people can remain fully themselves while sharing the same room, the same light, the same moment.
This painting began as a reflection on that rare form of closeness. Not the closeness that comes from constant interaction, but the kind that grows from trust. The kind that allows silence to feel complete rather than empty.
For me, this work is not about reading. It is about the inner life each of us carries, even in the company of those we love. It is about the freedom to be present without needing to fill every space with words.
Perhaps that is why so many viewers recognise something familiar in it. Not a specific story, but a feeling. A memory of being beside someone with whom silence felt natural.
The Quiet We Share was created for those who understand that the deepest connections are often the least visible. For those who know that true closeness begins when there is no longer any need to become someone else.
